Gravity's Rainbow.
In a week?
And you said no to Brothers Karamazov?
WTF.

>> No.1179413

If anyone reads Gravity's Rainbow in a week they'll probably lose their mind.

>> No.1179427

I'm going to try for Gravity's Rainbow.

I'm fully aware I'll probably kill myself.

I'd upload "A 'Gravity's Rainbow' Companion: Sources and Contexts for Pynchon's Novel", but it is on my Windows partition.

Its a fucking 400 page difference between them.

I think I might extend the next thread till monday depending on how far people are during the week.

I actually really would like to but everytime Ive suggest that its been greeted with cries of a hatred and loathing.

Here's the GR companion: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U2RBEHV0

Reading it in a week feels somewhat excessive, though. There might be a 400 page difference between it and BK, but the information density is not even comparable.

I should also point out that illiterate mode often has nonfiction essays or articles. I also hope that later on we can try out some good nonfiction, I was thinking some Carl Sagan mabye.

Well have a new illiterate mode/Neckbeard mode next week but hipster mode will just be continuing Gravities Rainbow.

Should we maybe have a midway point in Gravity's Rainbow?

I mean, maybe we agree to get to page 400 or so by next Sunday and discuss what we have read so far.

Not that I wouldn't love to read Snowcrash, but I just have too many books that I actually own that I haven't read yet.

Also: next week's neckbeard better be fantasy

>> No.1182279

awesome CW. i just put grav's rainbow on my ereader, and snow crash is one of my fav books. i guess i will finally be able to participate.

can i suggest some non-fiction? Underground by Murakami is great. And Surely You're Joking Dr. Feinmann was amazing too. And i second some Sagan.

>> No.1182303

What you all seem to mean by non-fiction is 'popular science'. There are essays and philosophical works we might do better to prioritize, as essentially no literature person gives a fuck about scientism, they just want to appear to to be 'in'.

>as essentially no literature person gives a fuck about scientism, they just want to appear to to be 'in'.

I'm a computer science major. I'm down with science. There is nothing wrong with having several interests.

Also:
>literature person
wat?

>scientism
Scientism is the idea that natural science is the most important aspect of human education. Nobody claimed they subscribed to that belief. The word you're looking for is science.
