Now that the dust has settled, can Harry Potter be part of a healthy reading diet?

What? Anti-female?
Having an obsession with reading 'novels' reveals that one doesn't ever read anything good. She sounds like the kind of person who would read Great Gatsby and her assessment being, 'I didn't like the ending.'
Jesus, maybe you should learn. I didn't type anything against women, I typed against this particular woman, and it had nothing to do with her sex.
Let me guess, you love Peterson and read Dostoyevsky.

You know, those Harry Potter books, you know they’re for children, don’t you? They’re aimed at children. People do that to me, "Have you read the new Harry Potter book, it’s good, have you read it?" No, I haven’t read it, because I’m a forty-year-old man. "You should read it, it’s about a wizard in a school." I’m not reading it! I’m a grown man — I’m an adult! "Have you read Harry Potter and the...and the Tree of Nothing?" No, I haven’t. I haven’t read it, but I have read the complete works of the romantic poet and visionary William Blake. So fuck off.

It's my opinion that the Harry Potter books are really great for anyone growing up. I wouldn't consider them to be "masterworks of fiction" but they will be considered (one of these days as) "timeless classics" and we'll continue to see young adults reading this series far into the future.

Really there's nothing morally objectionable to the books either and the story is nice. In a sense I feel that the first 4 books are really just a preface to make the last 3 books meaningful. However we also get to see a young man turn into an adult through hardship and trial. Again nothing wrong with that. Also the books offer an escape into a very well fleshed-out world of magic which can be very comforting to children dealing with issues at school or at home.

Still, there are higher works of fantasy fiction to read than Harry Potter. If people try to compare, say, something like LotR or the Shadow War Chronicles to Harry Potter I'd have a giggle at their expense.

I think the thing with Harry Potter is that it doesn't really lead anywhere. I'd like to think that books like LotR (that remains accessible to teenagers) are more of a gateway to literature as a whole, as I reckon it's quite easy to just end up stuck in the YA fiction mire.

Well to me personally Tom Sawyer comes to mind because not much happens in there besides Tom Sawyer being a douche and going to stop some injun dude in a cave (Huckleberry Finn is great tho, and by that I mean the book). Also (again, imo) The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe for being far too heavy-handed with the religious rhetoric. Decent fantasy ideas but again not much else going for it other than it's Christian af.

Actually there isn't so much hardship and trial as there is a special snowflake boy who is magically special and automatically good at everything. He is born with a fortune and and is naturally talented at sport (he even gets a special broomstick for free to make him even better!). He fights the bad guy not with skill but with luck and magically being immortal to him or something.

I hadn't thought of it like that but you're right on the money. It needn't be like that for everyone who grows up reading the series, but every time someone portrays it as the end-all be-all of fantasy, fiction, literature, whathaveyou, it's absolutely tiresome.
