Eh, not necessarily. Jesus was a prophet and Buddha achieved enlightenment. I'm not sure of Pythagoras holds either of those qualities, but he was certainly erudite.

The difference is he contributed something worthwhile to the world.

these neo-catholic weirdos don't believe enlightenment exists. They think existence is just the suffering of being ashamed of your boners until you die and that it cannot be transcended.

right, so if to have any meaningful spirituality in my life I need to take some leap, I prefer to leap into the eastern traditions, which are about experiential truths, not dogma, and which can answer my doubts about my own life and the universe in more complete, satisfying ways.

yes. yep. That's what I believe.
>being the best version of myself is all the satisfaction and fulfillment I need! :)
I don't really get this one. Christianity is also about altering one's behavior and way of life on this earth to become, in some sense, the best version of one's self. A christian is supposed to model their life on Jesus', follow his example, etc.
All religions say that this good behavior down here gets you a better deal in the afterlife, but regardless of this, I think we can all agree that any tradition that teaches us to live well and in harmony with one-another has intrinsic value, no?
