11767736 No.11767736 [Reply] [Original]

The last thread mocking the NPC theory got archived.
I would like to raise some questions

1 - Is "inner speech" synonymous to the "opposable self"?
>>Human beings have the ability to mentally “step back” from the situations we find ourselves in, in a way that no other creature can. When I drive my car or do the dishes, I am seldom absorbed in either. My mind is often someplace else entirely. Sometimes, I am thinking about myself. This ability to mentally disengage from situations, in fact, is a pre-condition of self-awareness. Higher animals (and a good many lower ones, in fact) all seem to have the ability to adjust their behavior based upon how their actions are affecting things around them. For example, if the kitten scratches the family dog and the dog growls ominously, the kitten backs off. But we attribute much of this to the animal instinctually making a new choice from among its pre-set repertoire of behaviors.
>>Human beings, on the other hand, have the ability to “turn inward” and reflect on themselves in a sustained, prolonged, and profound way that animals just do not seem to be capable of. The reactions of others, for example, may even prompt me to go off on my own (literally or figuratively) and ask “What kind of person am I?” or “Am I a good person?”
>>The “opposable self” has the ability to abstract itself from all situations and all things – even from the self itself. Consider the following. Right now you are reading my words, taking them in, and (I hope) understanding them.

2 - Has anyone addressed the reason why some eastern traditions seem to aim at silencing this inner speech, using practices such as Meditation? (Besides the weaponized autism meme)

Your sense of self is basically a feedback loop, storing experiences and mixing them, and then storing those mixed experiences and mixing them again, etc, etc, etc. The difference between npcs and pcs is the realization of this mechanism, maybe unconsciously at first. The budhists insist once you realize this you should aim to turn it off. Others say go wild with it. NPCs have no awareness or control of themselves

If you think that having an inner monologue and frequent day dreams makes you superior to normies inherently, you're wrong. Now, to note, the study done was on what % of time individuals spent reflecting actively, not that some people have NO internal reflection.

A normie goes through life and reacts organically to stimulus. Someone says something; I respond naturally. Someone tells me to do something; I respond naturally. This is not a defect necessarily, but this is how you get people who "float through life" and end up at mid-life crises and the like. Still, what this shows is an APTITUDE for life. You know how schools of fish can swim in perfect formation due to electromagnetism or some nonsense, some 6th sense? Normies are like that, they have a 6th sense for interaction in the world, being-in-the-world. They are attuned to a whole texture of reality that the insular-introspective is not.

Now, the insular-introspective IS attuned to a wholly different realm, but it is a DIFFERENT realm, not "the" realm or what is "real". A defect in world-sense is not a virtue. In many ways, an overdeveloped introspective aptitude is detrimental. Someone says something; I take too long to respond and am self-conscious. Someone tells me to do something; I wonder why I should or if I even want to and end up not doing it and getting fired/flunking. While the normie may become "trapped" or subsumed within the psychic sea of the social environment, the autist becomes paralyzed within himself. Often this is due to a malfunctioning 6th sense which overreacts to possible danger: where the average person sees potential friends, the autist sees potential for embarrassment. This does not make you a Player Character.

To step back is good, a good skill to have. To always be stepped back? Then you are not even a person, then YOU are the NPC. Which is more NPC like? Someone who goes out and has a normal day and conversations with friends? Or someone who does not even talk to others while in public, who stutters out "Y-Y-You t-too..." like clockwork, and spends their days in a dark closet lit up by the hum of a monitor?

If you spend most of your time thinking to yourself, and have a poor ability to integrate into society, YOU are the NPC. What you are calling NPCs are shitty, low level PCs. You are an NPC whose player complains online when they're not playing the MMO. You need to go out into the world and interact there if you want to be a PC.

The only game worth playing is the master game, maybe this is what is meant by NPCs, people that not play the game of transcendance

Because Eastern societies are collectivist and thus the individual needs to be suppressed so that everyone can become NPC cogs in society.

I'm not mocking normies or anything, I'm just interested in understand this inner speech mechanism.

I hate this social Darwinism of "Just go into the real world bro!!!"
Why do you assume everyone has the same interests and needs? What if I'm just not very comfortable around normies? Why do people like you tend to reduce everything into some simplistic social dinamic? This isn't r9k

When we're talking about NPC, we're talking about a "game". That game, assumedly, is Life. Life is played out in public, not in your head. The game in your head is not Life, it's Your Life, which is very different. My point being that, from an external viewpoint, the character who does the least interaction is the most like an NPC. Every character has a dumb long backstory, but if yours only exists as "lore" then you are an NPC.

What if you're not comfortable around normies? Okay, that's nice. It's something you can overcome, and if you want to fashion yourself a PC, it's something you ought to overcome.

Now, again, I did try to point out that, on other planes, the insular-introspective has advantages. But those are other planes, other games. The Normie is barely playing the introspection game. In my opinion, one should attempt to be best in as many fields as possible. Just an opinion, but your potential is not a Zero Sum Game, becoming more socially apt does not decrease your ability to brood or create great works of art.

The Game of Transcendence is one more people should be playing. Very unfortunate that so many do not take it seriously, and that even those who do often do so in a semi-ironic or 'knowing' manner.

Being reflective and not being able to socialise are two different things. One might correlate with the other but that's by the by.

The way you advocate NPCs you might as well advocate ignorance. I'm 23 and already had 2 serious breakdowns in my life. Whilst they were caused by being reflective, the source of emotional pain would have been there either way and likely caused me to live an unfulfilling life had I become aware of them. The gift PCs have is the ability to gain awareness and change. To avoid the having to spend 40 years before you realise how shit things are if you don't anything about it.

>being unable to think without having a demon literally narrating your life
what's the end game of the possessed people who introduced this theory? is it just to force normies to subvocalize when reading to make them slower and dumber or is there a more sinister plot behind it?

Everyone in the threads I've seen mock NPCs but it honestly seems like a blessing to be able to turn it off.

I think this npc thing refers to a previous state of consciousness where inner speech and other ego tricks are not fully formed, which is why the language is always pointing to "instincts" and words like "biological". Not exactly what eastern practices advocate.
