I just bought this today, /lit/. Had to bum, like, five bucks off a couple of friends to make up for the stupid price at Barnes&Noble (okay, so it was the price above the barcode, but still...)

Am I gonna' be dissapointed? I saw the movie and loved it (mostly after the fact, like with A Clockwork Orange), but I'm not so sure.

I just want a heads up, if you please.

P.S.: It was actually this or The Great Gatsby. Did I do right?

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.
GO BACK AND GET THE GREAT GATSBY.

>> No.1176476

The movie is also much, much better than the book is.

It's okay I guess... But it's no Gatsby.

All this hate makes my heart hurt.
Yes, I love Fight Club.
No, I'm not that kid in high school who you expect to blow up the school and kill everyone.

No, but you are still a kid in high school. No one over 16 should have any love for Fight Club except as a nostalgia piece.

I've never understood that reasoning. Is it just because of its "fuck the establishment" theme?

its twilight for boys

>> No.1176531

definitely should've bought the great gatsby

chuck palahniuk isn't a bad writer - just very gimmicky, and in my opinion fight club wasn't his best novel

but then again, read one of his books, read pretty much all of them

>No, I'm not that kid in high school who you expect to blow up the school and kill everyone.

No one expects that kid to blow up the school and kill everyone; they expect him to ge home every day and continue being a massive tool, then hopefully grow up after a few years of doing that.

Would any kind anon remind me the name of the person who does those comics? I always forget it.

On topic, I can guess you're not THAT much into literature, so I guess Fight Club could do fine, but don't expect anything particularly impressive.

Read whatever the fuck you like and don't listen to faggots you tell you shit, like in this thread!?

Say whaaa? Reading a book makes someone a tool?

>> No.1176542

You should have bought The Great Gatsby instead.

>> No.1176546

i'd go with Lullaby if you want a Chuck Palahniuk book.
magic is more fun than schizophrenia.

You're going to have to be more specific. Twilight has no purpose other than a fapfic, while Fight Club presents social commentary on the casual hedonism of the 90's (and today) by taking a step back and seeing how silly it all is( "What furniture best describes 'me'?"), as well as presents some existential ideas to a demographic that normally wouldn't be exposed to it (the scene with the gas station attendant).

Unless I'm missing something?

>> No.1176550

>>1176547
It is, but people only focus on the meat-head fighting aspect of it.

>> No.1176557

then the problem lies with the readers, not the book itself. can't let a retarded fanbase spoil something for you.

though I'll be damned if fighting isn't fun as fuck.

>> No.1176571

>>1176557
The fanbase obviously over looks Palahniuk's main points for the whole book. I still love it, and I hate fighting (as in me fighting other people. I'm almost always crippled with some sort of sickness.)

It's Kate Beaton
