How do you picture Judge Holden from Blood Meridian?

The book always seemed to stress creepy more than masculine.

So, I read The Road a while back, and thought that it was a great, almost transcendently beautiful experience. Then I tried Blood Meridian, and I could not for the life of me get into it. Not only was the prose significantly worse, hampered down by all sorts of try-hard bullshit maneuverings, but whereas the violence in The Road seemed to make an almost religious point about the people we choose to become, the violence in Blood Meridian seemed more or less to be the point in itself.

Admittedly, I never finished the book, and I know that everyone and their grandmother loves the book. It just felt so immature and pointless in comparison to The Road.

Am I being unfair here? I just don't get what is there to actually like about it..

The violence in Blood Meridian is not about our choice. It's about how violence is part and parcel of the human experience, but also separate from our humanity. How far did you get into it? If you didn't get to the "ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner" speech, you a) missed a good speech, and b) couldn't hope to get the point.

When people think of The Wild West they probably first think of Cowboys with nice horses and Indians with feather hats, outlaws being brought to justice etc and people dying instantly from arrows/revolver rounds and only Indians scalping.

BM is about dirty outlaws who ride almost wild horses hunting and being hunted by Indians who wear literally fucking anything and butchery of both by both.

There's no lawful good sheriff. Dan Brown blows the a young good mans head off after being conned to get him out of jail.

All of this isn't just in wooden villages and tumble weeds but almost "epic" otherworldly beauty which itself can be just as violent and deadly.

>In 1977, a petition was addressed to the French parliament calling for the abrogation of several articles of the age of consent law and the decriminalization of all consensual relations between adults and minors below the age of fifteen (the age of consent in France). A number of French intellectuals - including such prominent names as Aragon, Foucault, Sartre, Derrida, Althusser, Barthes, Klossowski, Beauvoir, Deleuze, Guattari, Leiris, Robbe-Grillet, Sollers, Rancière, Lyotard, Ponge, and various prominent doctors and psychologists - signed the petition. In 1979 two open letters were published in French newspapers defending the release of individuals arrested under charges of statutory rape, in the context of abolition of age of consent laws.
