You rage you lose.
This so called "poet" has 50,000 followers on instagram and her self-published books have rave reviews on Amazon. Every one of her shitty poems on instagram has dozens and dozens of comments of people saying stuff like, "omg so beautiful"

But it is all so trite, so vapid, so devoid of any insight or literary use of language!! Fuck! Her poetry is SO BAD. I could write the same shit in less than 10 seconds per poem.

Immensely talented people like Rimbaud could make poetry out of that form. Rimbaud you will note studied Latin and Greek as a child, won prizes for Latin poetry as a child, mastered metred rhyme, and then created some poetry which while beautiful is inferior to his metred rhyme.

Compare to the type of people who write in these styles today.

And it's not even grammatical. If she wants to have the run-on sentences for stylistic reasons, okay whatever, but the "them" at the end should be an "us." It doesn't even make sense how it is now.

this thread kind of make me want to write poetry again, I don't care what that guy said to me in that thread where people were posting their poems and I posted one of my poems and he was very negative about my capacities as a poet.

That is at least poetry. I don't really like it but it is poetry, especially the beginning, after which it degenerates. It has at least the hint of a rhythm and musicality to it, and enough ambiguity to present the possiblity of essence that poetry aims at. Whereas the girl in this thread is just not poetry, neither is Rupi Kaur.

Yea, in a way this should be inspirational. This woman has tens of thousands of followers and apparently sells books on Amazon. It's not like the bar is particularly high to be a recognized poet outside of the literary establishment.

Lady Gaga excels at pop music. She is one of the best of the past 20 years at top 40 style pure pop. Very few of the people who make the charts achieve the success she did for the few years she dominated them.

The difference between Lady Gaga and the best of art rock, whatever you think is best, Dylan, the Velvet underground, i have no idea, is astronomcally smaller than the difference between the two of them and Handel or Bach.

>> No.11756398

she's just one of a million female pop "artists" who can never write a song without a co-writer, usually a male, who everyone knows actually wrote the thing

>> No.11756438

>>11756398
I dont think so there are a handful of female pop artists in the top 40 who actually artistically and lyrically direct their music. Lana del Rey, Taylor Swift, Sia, Adele for example.

There are purely manufactured singers as well, people like Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, whatever. It's not that hard to tell them apart, the former have a 'thing' the rest of them just get their songs written by Bruno Mars or whoever.

Lady Gaga had an identifiable thing, especially the way she made her choruses was extremely identifiable. They all make songs with those male songwriters that write all the stuff of course, but they also do their own stuff.

What the fuck is with brainlet English major dropouts who think that cutting mildly incoherent sentences into lines is poetry? I think that in certain cases that technique could probably be used effectively (using it to create tension that is resolved in the next line or something) but these idiots do ONLY that with seemingly no purpose and other English undergrad dropouts eat it up.

I just hate how lazy people are, and how faux-deep their writing is, and then they try to pass it off as poetry. I wasn't trying to hurt your feelings or anything, man (if you are who I think you are). I was just hurt at how shit poetry has become.

I'm more hurt that people have come to embrace this shitty poetry in some misguided claim to feel enlightened or gifted. It's like "The Emperor's New Clothes", but in real life. That's my bad, man. I didn't mean to piss you off.

It's the fucking break in line 4, if 4 and 5 were merged it would be a terrible poem but it would be a poem, right now it's literally just a phrase with random breaks inserted. It's just so fucking jarring and there's no possible meaning behind it, except perhaps as an elaborate meta-commentary on the modern poetic form, but I really fucking doubt it because the ruse surely would have ended by now, no?

I think it's harder than you're making it out to be unless your poems are all inane shit about love or le Drumpf, or at the very least you have some kind of angle you can play identity politics with. I tried the whole "instagram poet" thing myself and really didn't get any kind of traction whatsoever because no one gives a fuck about the actual poetry they just want to have a cutesy message delivered to them in a format that makes them feel smart and cultured.

If anyone has better ideas for publishing your stuff I'd love to here them, I just doubt there's much of an audience outside of places like /lit/.
