Why is his prose so fucking awful?

His prose is really good though, at least the translations. 'One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star'. It's expressive and concise

I think it's beautiful tbqh. I don't even like Nietzsche very much but I like his little aphorisms. Reading Birth and Tragedy is a fun experience as well even if utlimately you're like 'what exactly was the point of this'

>Birth and Tragedy
Birth of Tragedy* I can't write right now I am withdrawing from alcohol. Anyway I think Nietzsche is actually one of the better prose writers among philosophers and that a great deal of his fame is in fact because of how he said things and not what he was saying. Now I'm going to go drink, have a good one anons.

The Birth of Tragedy is probably his worst prose-wise.

You can read German, right? If you're reading an English translation then you aren't really getting a taste of his prose. And no, there's no way to make a translation that fully captures what the author wrote. There are always nuances lost in translation.

Just how little German style concerns itself with sound and with the ear is demonstrated in the fact that even our good musicians write badly. The German does not read aloud, not for the ear, but merely with his eyes. In the process he has put his ears away in a drawer.
