Truth = a person's interpretation of reality, which is how they understand things to be.
Reality = what exists

>"Truth" = a person's interpretation of reality, which is how they understand things to be. "True" enough to get through the day.
>Truth = what is
seems closer to me.

>> No.11745696

Truth is just correspondence. It is that which corresponds to reality.

If I say, "The moon is made of cheese," that is not true because it doesn't correspond to reality.

If I say you're using the internet right now, that is true, though, because it does correspond to reality.

What is "What is truth?" ?

It's truth. Do you speak english? Logos exists irregardless of nous.

That which is provable or observable according to some other order (physics, science, philosophy, ethics, etc)

So a statement like "it is good to kill people" has no truth value, as it is not descriptive?

>> No.11745720

Yes, but what is reality, and is it the same thing that is happening inside of us, is happening outside of us, and how do know this to be so?

>> No.11745745

>>11745711
It is good to kill people either corresponds to reality or doesn't correspond to reality. That's the situation when it comes to questions like that.

Now the hard part is determining whether it corresponds to reality or not. But the nature of truth remains the same.

Doing the good to good people, and doing bad to bad people, of course. What say you Socrates?

>> No.11745755

>but what is reality,
Reality is that which exists. It is common sense knowledge known to everyone except pretentious undergrads in philosophy 101.

>> No.11745769

>>11745745
But whether or not it corresponds to reality is independent of reality itself and dependent on the definition of a term that, I hope you will agree, cannot itself correspond with reality, assuming metaphysics operates outside the realm of reality.

Unless you're under the impression that Sam Harris has solved ethics (or good and bad) scientifically or something of the sory
