Am I dumb or this shit doesn't make any sense?

ultimate pseud-core

It doesn't make any sense. There's a ghost tv license checker who shows up at one point and his son has to tell him to go away.

>> No.11735795

nah, 1Q84 is just bad.

>> No.11735825

How come 1Q84 is loved by critics but Murakami fans all agree it's one of his worst novels?

>> No.11735832

Is it the same as bird chronicle where there's a bunch of interesting story elements that totally fail to tie together by the end?

This is all of Murakami's work and why he is a hack. He's the novelist version of the writers of Lost.

Hm well maybe that's the message in itself. Absurdity, remembering, dreams, he's quite a fatalist, or maybe he's leading us away from the essential certainty of climax to emphasize our inability to "grasp" everything but instead whatever it is that is of one's own personal self-interest by vague rules of thumb.

Does anyone else read the title as Q-teen Eighty-Four?

This man in my country, he is nothing.

I wouldn't say he is a hack, but he is really style over substance to me in terms of his kind of pulpy prose mixed with a minimal form of surrealism.
He is the most likely of the nobel prize contenders to end up on the New York Times bestseller list.

>> No.11735972

1Q84 is probably the most coherent of Murakami's "weird vague shit" novels. Most of the loose ends that are truly important are resolved by the end of the novel (some kind of vaguely, but still) which is very different to a lot of his other longer works.

I'd also say it is one of its best, although not dropping it early in is quite the task.

As opposed to what? One Q Eight Four?

hot take: hard boiled wonderland is fucking bad-ace, and is very neatly tied up at the end in the most unexpected and satisfying of ways.

can't speak to this one---always seemed likea . drag just based on the back of the book. wouldn't be surprised if slimy western critics slobber over anything he puts out just cus he is a Nip

The book spells out that it's a twist on 1984. I still don't understand your objection.

Yeah. Or maybe it is an allegorical represantation of cold war.

He quotes Checkov's rule that if a gun shows up in a story, it has to shoot; then he says he doesn't agree. This sort of explains why the book is full with details that don't add nothing to the bigger picture, like the accurate description of food and sexual habits, or the whole 1984 reference to be honest.
