OP, designers have tried for years to integrate Lovecraft's themes and imagery into videa with varying degrees of success. Super Bunnyhop happens have a nice video about it on YouTube. The roguelike Infra Arcana is a favorite of mine since I love roguelikes.
the closest thing to what you're asking for would be Sil which is a variance of Angband that bases itself very strictly off of Tolkien's writings. don't have an opinion on it since I I'm a bit of a brain lit and haven't figured out how to compile the game.

I'd recommend either to /lit/ since thay are very popular writers here. The crude graphics of roguelikes also means you can envision things however you want much like in literature.
OP is also a faggot for reminding me that the literature board has better discussions than the actual video game board.

>>11704032
The storylines in literature tend to demphasize physical action so they don't fit into gameplay systems nicely. I'm saying this as the guy who might be the most avid gamer on lit by the way.
I always wanted a little more of the reverse. Some fans of certain games can get very invested in their settings to the point where I could easily imagine them buying even lazily written tie-ins if they containd new information or lore.

As a further aside, monopolization of Final Fantasy Tactics would be great since the events in the game are supposed to be told to you by a historian who pieced it together centuries later. The plot is basically about the Catholic Church summoning anime Cthulhu. It's remarkably Lovecraft-like now that I think about it. . .

sorry, I meant to say "novelization"
Seriously, the plot of that game is almost like HP Lovecraft decided to write Ice and Fire but had the decency to keep everything contained in one book.

Very VERY loosely. I bet you didn't even read Crime & Punishment, you just quote the designers, who themselves don't even elaborate on that statement.

The premise is similar, that's it.

Have you read Heart of Darkness? The actual story isn't similar to Spec Ops at all, neither are the themes.

>>11704086
Which then? Silent Hill 2 definitely isn't based on C&P. Spec Ops has a similar premise but barely has anything to do with HoD. Dante's Inferno is an adaptation in name only, the portrayal is radically different in any way. Bioshock is (trying to be) a critique of Rand, not based on Atlas Shrugged. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has very little to do with roadside picnic, again aside from the premise. Same with that Machiavelli's The Prince game. DMC definitely isn't based on a book.

To me, based on and inspired by are two separate things.

that's all you can really hope for, or perhaps that the game experience might get you to think about some similar stuff to the book.
It's impossible to faithfully adapt a book to the screen, why would it be any easier with a game.
whether they're 'based on' or 'inspired by' is semantics, but the list in this thread is about as close as you're going to get

there's a point and click adaptation of The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett, i think.
Mount and Blade: With Fire and Sword is based on the polish epic of the same name
