What's the absolute stupidest advice on writing you've read or heard?

Mine was from someone well read, capable of appreciating Shakespeare and Milton, but not capable of appreciating Orwell. I asked her for writing advice before and she gave me a bunch of gobbledygook about how if I got the impulse to write, don't hesitate, just seize it, even if a voice inside says you shouldn't, and write as hard as I can over and over until I'm satisfied and it's all on paper. I said how do you know that would be good? She said, Well why don't you find out? This was seriously disappointing to me because she studies this a lot, but tgat sounded like bs out of a self help book.

Do you actually think you'll become a good writer by not writing though?

That sounds like pretty good advice desu.

Fucking bait-posters man...

In all fields.

Yeah, it's better to ignore that impulse and not write at all, at least in your case.

The stupidest advice I've heard is that you should only write if you know what you're writing is good

No, but I can't see how that can produce quality writing though, "just write, bro".

Like everything else in this world you need to practice writing to get better at it so that is actually a pretty good advice anon.

If you don't see how practice can make you better at something then you are completely hopeless.

I do, but I expected something less obvious, everyone knows that. I said any more precise tips on how to write, like approach, and she just said write hard, really hard, like you mean it, and it will be great, oh trust me. There is nothing I can do with that.

All writing advice is just that, if you follow the shit like a mantra, you're the stupid one, not the advice.
>>11680868
What is quality writing? How do you decides whether something is and isn't?
>>11681096
Most basic things are obvious.
>There is nothing I can do with that.
You can stop posting and start writing already. Most other advice applies to editing but to know what you're doing when editing, you first need to know what you're doing when writing, which can only be accomplished by writing.
