O'Connell later went on... some late night show, maybe it was Letterman, and talked about how this guy once used Stand By Me as an example of metaphor in film language, a movie that O'Connell happened to have starred in. He used a scene in which there was a torrential downpour to illustrate the wrath of the heavens and the hopelessness of the characters, etc. Meanwhile O'Connell's over here remembering how fucking furious (director) Rob Reiner was that it was raining, but that they only had the location for the day and thusly had to get it over with in the rain.

That said I do feel like I mostly benefitted from both my grad and undergrad experiences. That also said, I do still have the book that argues that Disney's Hercules is an allegory for the (first) Clinton administration. I cherish that fucker.

What is so fascinating about "video essays" is that the person's appearance invades the subject matter.
We realize, no, this man/woman/thing cannot sit down and write an essay or a piece of journalism like an intellectual is want to do to prove anything, this man/woman/thing has to resort to memetic editing and "academic poster boy visuals" to put her point across.
2 minutes in and not continuing further I can only assume as a substitute for me not attempting to rebuttal whatever this shit is (my, or any other written efforts lost)
that this guy(?) had an attention span of approximately reddit seconds and failed constantly to test out various philsophies for lack of her (?) ego-investments in her pre-valued characteristics (i.e. gay or whatever).

It's like trying to convince a hedonist with 10 years of drug abuse that being "sober" can train your mind to find life more beautiful without drugs. This is impossible because the drugs have done so much damage to their heads (see men and porn etc.) that they cannot comprehend a life of coherence, looking through glass without a filter etc.
People like this never break into being spectacular characters because, like the greeks realized, to understand something, you need to deconstruct it. That's never going to happen when everyone of your "philosophical" quandries is smeared with "how does this relate to my pre-existing experience of liking cock up my ass."
