Read the Analects in an edition with good notes and an introduction. Also, respect your father and listen to his advice.

This is your father speaking.
Start with Mencius.

Can you read Chinese?
Believe it or not, understanding the structure of the language can help reveal a lot about the thought process.

Read the Four Classics. Start with the Analects, then the Great Learning, then the Doctrine of the Mean, then Mencius.

its recommended that you read it next to a stream while listening to a guzheng

worship your superiors
beat your wife

Ethics in the Confucian Tradition by P. J. Ivanhoe is a good book. Gives you a summary of Confucius the focuses on Mencius and Wang Yangming. They are my fav philosophers in the Confucian tradition.

The Penguin edition of the Analects is good, but if you just read the Analects on its own you might not see what the fuss is about.

One does not simply "into" confucius. best intro to 古典中國哲學 rite here m8

This is good. Not sure about as an intro though- I might go with The World of Thought in Ancient China first.

Also Nylan's The Five 'Confucian' Classics is a great intro to the five classics.

I started schwartz but found it boring. why do you think its a better start? also I was already really deep into daoism and knew classical chinese before I read these broader survey things so my view of how to get into this stuff is somewhat skewed, would appreciate another view
