The only fiction books I currently read are by Kurt Vonnegut. What other books/authors would you recommend (other than George Orwell of course)?

I think something with humor, sci-fi, and a relatively straight forward writing style. At least that's why I think I enjoy his books so much.

My favorite "underrated" author is Karel Capek
>The Absolute at Large
>The War with the Newts
>A book of fairy tales, but not actual old timey fairy tales, just good original short stories with fairy-tale qualities. The title is 10 short fairy tales or something like that.

Ray Bradbury
>Short stories,
>Martian Chronicles,
>Fahrenheit 451

Phillip K. Dick
>Our Friends from Frolix 8 was good, super weird, and no one talks about it ever.
>Then of course The Man in the High Castle and Electric Sheep are good too. I suppose his other stuff is good too

Maybe Philip K. Dick? Haven’t read his works, but from what I’ve heard he probably matches your description. Maybe minus the humor part.

T.C Boyle maybe? Same simple writing style and both test tube grown up alien baby looking MFs. Charles Bukowski's adventures are pretty funny to read too

Congrats on your YA taste, go read some 19th century and early 20th century literature and come back to late 20th and contemporary in as long as it would take to finish a college degree

There's nothing more I can say to do it justice than that it is the Paradise Lost of novel adaptions of Biblical stories. Well, that and I have to start work in 3 minutes. My suggestion is to read the first book, about 400 pages, detailing Jacob's sojourn to live with Laban for 25 years. If you don't take to the style of storytelling by then, which is absolutely brilliant in my mind, it may not be for you, even though it has up to that point very little to do with Joseph. Because especially if you're even a little bit of an Egyptaboo, Joseph being sold into slavery in Egypt and his rise to become Pharaoh's top man is some of the comfiest shit ever. Brb gotta start work now

Not all literature has to be something deep and contemplative. If you're like OP and I you probably also have other things to do too and just want a light read.

Vonnegut is probably one of the most overrated writers ever. With all due respect cause his books are okay, but nothing more.
