I want to start writing a SHTF themed book but I don't know where to start.
It's supposed to take place in mid-war Ontario.
I won't go into full detail but it's basically a North American Syria when the book takes place.
What are some good SHTF/war novels I could read to give me a good idea about it?
inb4 "There's a writefag general on /k/" I barely got any help there

Also, the novel will be heavily /out/ and /k/ themed (minus the memes)

Biggest problem is going to be figuring out how things got that far--even if you don't have characters monologuing on it, it's important to understand what sort of world led to SHTF.

Was it fluke disruption of 1st world supply chain from EMP or solar flares or something? Okay, that's one thing.

Was it a massive disease? That's going to imply government action and reaction, and possibly shutdown.

Was it a coup? Different sort of government stuff.

War? Riots? Rebellion? Global economic collapse? All of these leave distinctive marks on the world the characters must inhabit.
