You shouldn't care about the plot. Plot's just the stick around which the cotton candy's wrapped: it's what holds the whole thing together, but it doesn't really come up that much while you read, and if you start messing with it then it might break and drop the whole floss down and then you'll be sad.

It depends on the thing you're writing and what your goal is with it. Prose, plot, and world building are all great techniques to enhance the reader's interest level, but the writer can decide how important each aspect is to what he or she is writing. It all depends on what you want to accomplish with your writing
