I don't get it. Is Porfiry supposed to be Dosto's self-insert?

>> No.11596085

Also how did Porfiry know about Raskolnikov's theory on power? I must've missed something.

Porfiry is the most complete representation of the ethical within the novel (expounded most completely in his final conversation with Raskolnikov)

He knew about Raskolnikov's theory on power based on the paper Rodya published as well as the full conversation with himself, Rodya and Razumzikhin which discussed said paper and theory

This. Just as Sonya represents the religious. The two sides needed for raskolnikov to redeem himself.

Can't forget that Svidrigailov represents the aesthetic

The scene where Raskolnikov is between Sonya on one side and Svidrigailov behind the wall on the other with him confessing gave me chills with the imagery

Porfiry is doing his job getting a murderer to confess. Is there anything to suggest he's doing more than just making some accurate points doing that?

Very Kierkegaardian

Kierkegaard and Dostoevsky seem to intersect on a lot of shit. Wish they commented on eachothers work.
