Well Scipio was actually a complete success as a commander and BTFO Carthage so bad that the Third Punic War was basically just a jolly romp through North Africa on the way to razing Carthage to the ground. The Second Punic War was what really did them in.

Also Scipio didn't get captured and defeated twice.
