I read the protector of the small and the song of the lioness quartets
they were okay but since they were feminist propaganda i wouldn't recommend them
they have made me want to start reading fantasy again though, i've read nothing but sci-fi for like the past 5 years

/lit/ has a wiki. Perhaps we need a "book club" section, where this (and any competing book clubs) could update with their reading lists.

>> No.1158254

>>1158228
"FUCK YEAH" DOESN'T USUALLY ENTAIL MADNESS.

>> No.1158258

>>1158111
I dont know.
Its a little over 1000 pages long.

>> No.1158260

>>1158229

I just read For A Breath I Tarry after seeing mention of it in another thread today. I second this. It's a beautiful story. Only problem was that the version i found online was rife with spelling errors. Nothing bad but it was jarring to see them every few minutes.

I've never finished Dorian Gray. I still have my copy that I got in my grade 9 English class and never returned. Not because it was bad but because I suppose I felt burned out after having to read other shitty books. Daughter of Time and Never Cry Wolf made me sick of reading that year and I kind of gave up on Dorian Gray after the first chapter. All my friends said it was the best book they read that year though so I feel like I'm missing out.

>> No.1158294

>>1158260
THESE ARE WHAT I PLAN ON READING IN THE NEXT COUPLE WEEKS, PERHAPS YOU COULD USE ONE OF THESE FOR 'CLASSICS'?

The Life of Castruccio Castracani of Lucca
The War Prayer (Twain)
The Fox (Lawrence)
Hadji Murad
A Confession
The Devil
The Kreutzer Sonata (Last four Tolstoy)
The Prince (Machivelli)
Nausea (Sartre)
The Fall (Camus)
Hunger (Hamsun)

WHAT DO YOU THINK GUYS?

Back to page 1 with you.

Also, what would you guys think of either Illuminatus! or Shrodgners Cat for Neckbeard mode?

>> No.1158613

>>1158229
I'd be cool with Hyperion since I'm ordering it on Monday regardless, but something other than science fiction would be a nice change of pace.

>> No.1158634

>>1158613

Then how about the Golden Compass?

>> No.1158641

>>1158634
I'd be open to that. Kinda wanted to start that series for awhile.

Of course, I am only one person, and Courage Wolf is has the final say.

>> No.1158658

Suggestions:

Contemporary/easy mode: Beat The Reaper - just read it in a day and it's a fantastic first novel.
Vintage/neckbeard: Joseph Conrad - The Secret Agent
Short Story - something by Chris Adrian

>> No.1158673

How about we read The Brothers Karamazov for a month.
Starting now until about Halloween.
I'd love to discuss this book with /lit/.
It has philosophy and religion which is what this board talks about half the time anyways..

Perhaps in the future, but not now. The book club needs a stronger base before we can tackle something like that.

>> No.1160494

Quick question before I start the real thread.

Would you guys be ok with reading a text document instead of a PDF?
That will greatly influence what book I pick.

>> No.1160513

>>1160494
i prefer .txt files
lets me read them on my gameboy

>> No.1160521

>>1160494
I wouldn't mine a .txt

But this is also my first book club so my opinion might not count.

I tried to read this.

Book was stupid boring.

Does it ever stop reading like a history book? Because I distinctly remember putting it down because it read like a history book.

>> No.1160689

Right now I'm reading The Count of Monte Christo and I'm surprised by how much I like this book.

>> No.1160793

I'm reading it right now.
I just started on Part II.
Hasn't read like a history book yet...
