Literally every other video I can recall seeing from nerdwriter other than this is pseud-tier, but I appreciate your discretion.
If you aren't familiar with color theory or image composition I imagine that this video would be pretty informative.

How the hell did I not know about this?! This is heaven.

What a tragedy that NO ONE making or appearing in movies today is literate as O'Toole and Welles were. Imagine putting any of the best 10 living movie players into the room when this conversation took place, never mind the most popular 10. Take an embarrassingly extreme contrast, like that crazy numbskull Tom Cruise, and beam him there, then it becomes a cosmic joke. Of course I could conjure a crude approximation of that by assembling a montage that cuts back and forth between this delicious piece of film and any of the many nauseating moments of Cruise in interviews, but I'm not that sick even in the sense that Hamlet is.
Perhaps the scenario comes to mind because Welles, who rightly identified himself with Falstaff, has a weird kind of immortality on film of him in conversation. It seems more as if he's in the room where you are watching it, than that you are tapping a distant archive of his image recorded faraway and before you were born. (In this case 3 months before I was born, on the other side of the Atlantic.) It's an effect that gives me great pause for thinking about the nature of charisma, and much else too.

My two favorite Peter O'Toole films are The Ruling Class and The Stunt Man. I love Lawrence of Arabia and My Favorite Year, but those two really hit me and were both so wildly over the top without ever being silly. O'Toole leaping around as JC is The Ruling Class and then turning into Jack (the ripper) was something I don't think many actors (certainly not American actors) could pull off and not provoke howls of mocking laughter. They were both grounded in reality so they never came off as silly--at least to me. It is a very sad passing but he lived a pretty active life.
