who the fuck is kurt vonnegut?

>> No.1156655

a writer who had good ideas and some really interesting things to say in his books but had no writing style to speak of what so ever. I read him and wonder how he got published

I've been hearing his name thrown around like confetti lately. any suggest reads of his?

>> No.1156672

A writer who is famous for purposely writing in an awful way. One of many.

>> No.1156677

It's just the publishing industry capitalizing on satire. So it goes, OP

>> No.1156696

you don't have to love his work, but if you don't read his books and at least like them, then you're probably just a jerk

anything he wrote is pretty good. i would start with Sirens of Titan

That's not Kurt Vonnegut—that's Kilgore Trout!

Kurt Vonnegut isn't a very good writer on the whole. His work seems to appeal mostly to those of the high school demographic. If you want to read a Vonnegut book, I would recommend Slaughter-House Five.

>> No.1157178

Kurt Vonnegut is postmodernism for high schoolers.

Slaughterhouse Five is generally considered his masterpiece though Harold Bloom maintains that Cat's Cradle is his canonical work.

One the best authors ever. In my opinion. Cat's Cradle is a freaking masterpiece, and pretty much all of his numerous novels are great.

>> No.1157624

A pretty good author

although, with most of his books I don't feel quite fulfilled upon finishing them if that makes sense. I think to myself 'wow, is that it?'. Only book I didn't feel that with is Mother Night
