I've read Part 1 (300/1000 pages) of Atlas Shrugged. The book's due tomorrow. Do the other two parts make up for the pseudo-philosophy and shitty writing? Or should I just drop it.

There's some exciting bits. But that's pretty much it. The rest is monologue.

I find it kinda hilarious how many people dislike Atlas Shrugged just because they disagree with the philosophy. I mean, leaving aside her political views, it's a book with everything in it. Pirates, romance, boardroom politics. Shit, if they cut out the monologues and just released it as "Smart Chick Builds Shit and Bones Rich Guy" people would lap that shit up.

I loved it. And her philosophy isn't perfect, but there are parts to it that simply can't be ignored. The only flaws I see in her philosophy are the health care, firefighters, police etc. You simply can't have those functions (properly) without taxes.
Also, her irrational hatred of environmentalism is ironic because her the rest of her philosophy is supposed to be founded firmly in reality.

Just skip to the end of "This is John Galt speaking" btw. Thats the monologue, its a bore.
Good book though. the ayn rand institute has been doing a fantastic job of getting her books into the public eye and as a result a lot of people have decided to criticize Atlas Shrugged simply because it's popular.

I'm reading the Fountainhead right now, definitely easier to read although I'm bugged by Roark's mind-reading of Dominique. It's almost twilight-ish, the way Ayn Rand tried to write the 'perfect man.'

Actually, if OP only has a few hours in which to accidentally the whole rest of the book, I'd say just read John Galt's rant and look up sparknotes for the in betweens.
