>brah just be kind to people who treat you like shit. They can't really do you any actual harm and besides they can't really help themselves.
Yet he writes that doing others Ill is sinning against Universal Nature and makes the person doing it evil. Also human life is just a blink of an eye in eternity. So how about instead of being kind to assholes even if they be your fellow man you just kill them so their useless retard monkey nigger bodies return to Universal Nature™ and hopefully become something useful like oh idunno, dirt?

You think he would’ve written a better book if he knew it would be published and shared in the future?

>> No.11508770

>>11508765
Nah, if he knew it was going to be read he would have written some completely forgettable garbage poetry that mimicked whatever tropes or techniques were fashionable at the time. Meditations is babby tier, but it's mostly readable.

stoicism is a crybaby philosophy, im afraid it doesnt get much better with other authors in this genre. try platonism, neoplatonism, scholasticism, pythagoreanism, presocratics, etc

He was just writing fragments of ideas, sentences that helped him keep the stoic philosophy in his life full of illnesses, death and retards around. Why do you care? He didnt write something with the intention that some faggot more than thousand of years ahead in time would appreciate. The fuck you want?

That they managed to injure you is one thing; why compound the evil done to your person by letting them disturb your mind; much less allowing them compel your actions away from what you know is virtuous?

Why would give evil person a triple victory when it is in you power to reduce it to nothing by holding fast to your own philosophies?

Also, so much of that book is about getting on and doing things. The misconception is it's about being passive.

>In he morning when thou risest unwillingly, let this thought be present- I am rising to the work of a human being. Why then am I dissatisfied if I am going to do the things for which I exist and for which I was brought into the world? Or have I been made for this, to lie in the bed-clothes and keep myself warm?- But this is more pleasant.- Dost thou exist then to take thy pleasure, and not at all for action or exertion? Dost thou not see the little plants, the little birds, the ants, the spiders, the bees working together to put in order their several parts of the universe? And art thou unwilling to do the work of a human being, and dost thou not make haste to do that which is according to thy nature?- But it is necessary to take rest also.- It is necessary: however nature has fixed bounds to this too: she has fixed bounds both to eating and drinking, and yet thou goest beyond these bounds, beyond what is sufficient; yet in thy acts it is not so, but thou stoppest short of what thou canst do. So thou lovest not thyself, for if thou didst, thou wouldst love thy nature and her will. But those who love their several arts exhaust themselves in working at them unwashed and without food; but thou valuest thy own own nature less than the turner values the turning art, or the dancer the dancing art, or the lover of money values his money, or the vainglorious man his little glory. And such men, when they have a violent affection to a thing, choose neither to eat nor to sleep rather than to perfect the things which they care for. But are the acts which concern society more vile in thy eyes and less worthy of thy labour?

The teachings of Yoga are quite similar to Stoicism. I think the main reason why everyone in interested in these philosophies is that they advocate relaxing more. With the internet and the amount of information the modern person has to process in one day, anything that gives them an excuse to take a break while feeling like they've attained some level of sainthood and satisfaction is welcomed.
