I'm learning Arabic at the moment and the script is much easier to grasp than I thought it would be - seriously go ahead and learn it, it's a beautiful language. For reference I had no clue how Arabic worked two weeks ago, now I can pretty much work out the phonetics of any piece of Arabic script. Learn the alphabet first and all of the sounds, then that will give you a great framework with which to learn the actual vocabulary.

It may look pretty, but the script is fucking awful for legibility. It has a low x-height/full ascender ratio, meaning you have to squint to discern characters at any font size; half the characters are distinguished by dots, which are sometimes not written at all; and since all the characters are simply combinations of horizontal or vertical lines, or loops, there is limited scope for embellishments (i.e. different fonts, 'bold' being the only used type, italic being impossible).

Terrible writing system. (Not even mentioning the routine omission of short vowels.)
