Sure, everybody should start with the Greeks, and continue with the Romans, but should everybody have to go through the Islamic Golden Age philosophers/Scholastics before reading Descartes? I don't think people who are interested only in learning about contemporary secular culture would enjoy reading Mediaeval texts on the essence of God and what it means to worship God's glory.
