Most definitions and ideas and historical and thus aribitrary.
Knowledge is somewhat trapped in its eras episteme.
Knowledge is controlled by power, power gets to decide what is true.
Power is not too down, but exists in a network of all people, it flows.
Government is interested in controlling bodies.
You do not exist as a personality a priori, so you must create youself.

Dont know about Deleuze.
Derrida was big on difficulty of communication and knowledge due to the circular logic of language.

Foucault was big on historical development of truth. Power between peoples and institutions. Knowledge as defined by power rather than actuality.

Derrida was about deconstruction of texts. Foucault was about studying the structures of modernity.

Both are masters of postmodernity along with Lacan.

Take all this with a grain of salt, I have not studied them in any depth.

When communism failed in the 20th century, all the marxist french philosophers tried to save face by saying the real world doesnt exist.

Similar conclusions in different areas.

Deleuze-->metaphysics
Derrida-->literary criticism
Foucault-->history

All of them were heavily influenced by Nietzsche while Foucault and Derrida were also explicit about their admiration of Heidegger. In the philosophical sense, the project they were trying to realize was the elimination of the Subject from the framework of philosophy.
