How impossible is it to become a professor? There’s seriously nothing else I’d be interested in/wouldn’t hate myself for doing

>University professor
Fucking impossible. <1% of phd grads from top tier universities make it.

>Community college professor/lecturer
A lot more possible. Not sure what the percentages are, but I have a few friends who do this.

If you're of the requisite IQ it's quite simple, really. In fact, you'll find it hard NOT to become a professor, since your mind is so sought after and appreciated.

>he unironically thinks this
Lol. IQ is a worthless measurement tool past 130 or so.

Piss easy but the pay is awful for 95% of professors. Many are living in their cars these days. No joke.

Be a persistent brainlet who goes along to get long. Acquire credentials by fellating people who did the same before you. Tolerate being beholden to mentally barren modern academics for 8+ years
Those are the only requirements

Move to Tokyo where you can teach part-time as a student teacher.

Shit, really? I'm not in the humanities but this makes it seem like there would be no incentive to get a PhD. I doubt >99% of students go into it for the lulz; where do the rest end up?

>> No.11462770

>>11462736
Maybe I exaggerated the numbers. It looks like 3% go on to becoming actual university professors (and even fewer will make tenure).

Most of them either go into industry or work as adjuncts (making 20k a year).

>> No.11462784

>>11462770
What is "industry" for a doctor of literature? I thought PhD was just the pipeline for the next cohort of professors and the ones who wouldn't have a future in academics didn't get into the PhD program.

>> No.11462789

Professor as in, a full professor with a tenure? Fucking impossible.

Lecturer or even associate professor is doable though if you are bright enough, willing to suck dicks and to set aside critical thinking.

there isn't a more surefire way of turning into a massive hack then becoming a university/college professor
