For one it was set in the UK.

Also there was mention of at least ONE american wizard, during the world cup thing one of the British officials got stuck touring around some African wizards and couldn't understand them.

He says something along the lines of "I've got to find Travish, American, bright, knows more languages that you can throw a Quaffle at, he could translate for me"

With the joke eventually being that the African wizard COULD speak English and just though it was really funny seeing the guy attempting to be understood by talking loudly and making hand gestures.

the american wizards are locked in government test centers located on military bases, most of them in nevada. jk rowling has said that due this apparent failure of the the international statue of wizarding secrecy of 1689 to have its intended effect, most of the american wizards who aren't being experimented on have begun to populate several planets and moons located in the alpha centurai star system.

as to the related question of why there are no american actors in the film adaptations, jk rowling wouldn't allow it. so much for her stance against bigotry.

We already discussed that some times.
In America there are not many regular schools like in Europe, there are mainly old shamans and Voodoopriester who teach young people in villagelike sorroundings the old arts.
In Canada there are old russian magicans, Inuits shamans who teach Ice- and Bloodmagic and some french and british teachers.
Europe mostly has schools like Hogwarts but many of them are teaching the dark arts especially Germany and everything east of it.
Japan has Mikoschools and is much more about writing and runes pp. than western magic
Africa has villagelike schools like the voodoopriester in America(maybe temples but not regular schoolbuildings).

I'm just repeating /int/s results from different threads.

It's normal that the native magic from indians in the USA still lives on and that the imported blacks brought their own. The european magicans are most likely a minority since the main two reasons to immigrate in the USA didn't exist for magicans, poverty at a level where you don't even have something to eat(look at the Weasley they are)and wish for Freedom.
In later times this changed of course.
All these styles must have mixed.
