hi my fellow e/lit/es. i was wondering if you stick to this single board or browse other ones in the same state of mind in which you browse this one?

ive found that lit is rarely a good place to get good discussion, even if it happens every now and then (when it happens it can be great), but it is rather a good place to exercise your writing and thinking abilities, to a certain extent at least.

on the other hand, by visiting boards such as /an/ /trv/ or /out/, ive found that by engaging in the concrete topics that those anons are interested in, you can get honest and serious discussion where you can put to actual use those abilities that can only be trained here.

what are your thoughts on this? do you get real discussion anywhere online?

I use /tv/ to shitpost and /lit/ for more serious stuff
The problem is that to speak with authority on literature you either need to be formally educated or very well read. There are some students/graduates and autistic neets who can give us real insight into the books we talk about but most people here don't have any authority.

i could tell you, in the middle of a discussion, that i have a phd and you coudnt prove me wrong or even doubt me.

plus, authority is not a strong or even valid backing for an argument, if you are truly interested in the ideas being discussed.

I mean authority in the sense that you're knowledgable on something which is why I included neets.

ah ok, thats different. but then, why call it authority? it is just, like you said, being knowledgeable, which is something you can only realize by discussing with someone, while authority is something that is clear and defined before any discussion takes place.
