what's the verdict on this publisher, /lit/? what are these books good for? are they outdated? do better/newer translations exist out there for which one should forsake the LCL?

Loebs are king. Great format, great translations, great footnotes. They refresh and update translations depending on the title, but the oldest ones are early 20th century are they not?

Loebs are great. They are the only translation for many works, and just fantastic overall - great binding, great size, good look, original text, scholarly translations. Just fantastic.

Picked up the APULEIUS, Apologia. Florida. De Deo Socratis:
http://www.hup.harvard.edu/catalog.php?isbn=9780674997110

Fresh 2017 translation. Can recommend. The Apologia is very funny, classical era MEMRI TV fight between Punic/Leb familes calling eachother whores, sluts and witch doctors.
