"A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest."
Do you agree?

No. "Good" and "bad" quality in aesthetics are relative and in the eye of the beholder. If children are enjoying a book and would describe it as good, it is a good book to children. Prove me wrong.

Yes, but it still should be enjoyed by children first and foremost. Adults are a secondary audience, but important if you want parents to read these books to their children.

If it can only be enjoyed by children, it's still a good children's story. It's just not a good story.

Any good parent treats their oownen enjoyment of the thing they know is benefiting their children as a nonfactor

I don't mean enjoyment as in "I want to read this book myself," more like enjoyment as in "this book has something important to say while this other book doesn't." It's why a parent chooses a Dr. Seuss book over something like The Giving Tree.

Then that's fine.

I mean if we're talking about something like Barney and Friends then no, it can be good without doing anything for adults. But if it's for kids who are older than like 7 then yeah.
