Hey anons. I was hoping to read the P&V translation of Demons by Dostoyevsky, but I couldn't find a decent EPUB online for it :(. Is the Constance Garnett translation any good, I know Nabokov hated it... What's your preferred translation?

Bless you kind lad! I am very grateful. I honestly spent an hour looking for a P&V copy to no avail. There's been something missing in my life since I finished the Brothers Karamazov.

What are the best translations of each of Dostoyevsky's works? Wondering the same for Tolstoy.

You should REALLY read the translation by Katz.

I've read The Idiot and Notes from Underground with the P&V version, enjoyed both very much. Very smooth to read.
I don't remember who translated the Crime and Punishment version i read, but it was the Signet Classics version with that orange cover. It was my first Dostoevsky so I didn't know what to expect. I remember enjoying it though.
I read his short story The Double with the Garrett version and didn't like it at all. Absolutely not a fan. It felt clunky and wordy and was a chore to finish certain parts. I know this is partly just that it's one of his lesser books writing-wise, but the translation just felt bad.

I read Ignat Avsey's translation of The Brothers Karamazov and thought it was a solid translation, I really liked the Oxford World Classics edition, had loads of useful information that you'd expect from oxford.

I'll check it out, I'm sure I'll be reading this book (as with all of Dostoyevsky's work) multiple times. I'll grab that when I get a physical edition since it's oxford, along with the Everyman's edition for the P&V translation
