My dad's a literature teacher who has read fuck everything. I think his favourite book is Ulysses or the In Search of the Lost Time series, idk. He likes Dostoevsky, Beckett, Roth, Auster, Fernando Pessoa, Borges, Machado de Assis, Musil, Kafka, Cervantes. He is the only reason why I started reading at all.

My dad's favorite book seems to be Candide, because he talks about it a lot. That and he loves the Robert E. Howard Conan stories. In fact, he's the reason I know about Conan in the first place.

Don't really know, either a Scandinavian thriller or a history book (probably Indro Montanelli's multi-volume history of Italy). When he was younger he read horror and other genres, never something too "lit" (in his defense, he's never enjoyed an education that would have prepared him to appreciate them I guess), but I think he feels more comfortable reading only iterations on themes he already knows he enjoys.

Honestly thought my Dad was illiterate until a few years ago when he started reading self-help books because he experienced a midlife crisis.
My Mom claims to be an intellectual and well-read but I don't think she's a read a book in the last 10 years. She praises Jane Austen despite reading her works only once like 20 years ago.
