>what do you mean you forget who this character is? You remember his name, right? so you should fucking remember who he is in the story, idiot

30-40 pages a hour is reasonable, 50-60 is good if your a advanced reader. 70-100 is just skimming over pages or speed reading.

A 'page' for me is around one full page of text in a journal article.

then how is 25 pages an hour (140 wpm)?
Is there any hope for me?

>> No.11401414

>>11401337
30 pages an hour is too fast. You need to be actively thinking about the text as you read. 15 pages an hour is perfect for comprehending and properly absorbing the text

This. How can you appreciate the beauty of good writing and narrative structure if you're skimming over the text? Literature isn't the fucking newspaper.

No Anon, you dont understand! You can’t possibly fathom the plethora of information and /lit/ status one can receive trough the art of exhilarating speed-reading! the splendor of the world has been enriched by a new beauty: the beauty of speed. A racing automobile with its bonnet adorned with great tubes like serpents with explosive breath ... a roaring motor car which seems to run on machine-gun fire and the reading of 102 words a second is more beautiful than the Victory of Samothrace. Reading to understand and enjoy/savor the text, is for brainlets, the true purpose of reading is the improvement of the readers speed - the faster: THE HIGHER IQ

Happens any time one tries to read some ''new'' book within science or philosophy, because then you’re not just reading the aforementioned book, but the dictionary too to understand what your reading. But hey, expanding your vocabulary can be fun – even if your never gone use those words because you aren’t a 20th century French post-modern philosopher with a hard on for Tautology.

>> No.11402998

Measuring in pages is a flawed system, because the content of a book, as way as the way it's edited, plays a big part on how long it will take you to finish.
Reading 40 pages of Don Quixote in a couple of hours is not the same as reading the same number of pages in 1984 in the same amount of time, for example.
You shouldn't be bothered by how long it takes you to finish one book as long as you finish it, accounting on the fact that you want to finish it.
