I never fell into fascist thought because I read the Tao Te Ching early on in life. Fascist thought ultimately stems from the tyranny of the self, which emerges when the self is repressed. Taoism and consequently Zen Buddhism are therapeutic for people who feel repressed like this and can help alleviate their compulsions towards tyranny, because they focus on nature as the unity of opposites. I also always remember a line from Nietzsche, where he says something like the cause of the tyrant is an inner weakness.
