Just inherited a bunch of old books, and this one caught my eye. It's one of the youngest in my father's collection in terms of age. I'm about to begin it. What does /lit/ think? What should I know about Hemingway going in to it?

Hemingway can't write a happy ending to save his life (oh wait..)

that there are two ways to read this book. it's a very plain and easy-to-read story for a child but to an adult it's about an old man trying to maintain his art and willpower while battling with old age. hemingway said he put in it everything he had learned about literature. but really, the sun also rises is probably a better reflection of hemingway's body of work. but the old man and the sea is probably the most internationally accessible with the most interesting themes.

watch the animated film by petrov when you're done. you'll love it if you liked the book.

It's one of my favorite stories.

I'm sorry your dad died op.

Now, can you post a picture of all the books you inherited? Or are the old books not that interesting?

Hemingway never wrote a book he couldn't punch or drink.
