You are a product of your surroundings.
You can't stop "being yourself".
Whatever you do, you are always yourself.

>> No.1137796

what am i, a product of my surroundings? or myself?

the two are mutually exclusive

of course, but that's not what people mean when they use the expression that they're "not themselves"

people mean that they're other than what they would like to think of themselves.

Every choice you make was taken based on your life experience, your genetics, and those of the people around you.
Yes, I believe in "destiny". I believe everything has already been predetermined.

They don't know the true meaning of what they are saying.
What they mean to say is "you aren't acting like you used to act", which is obvious. People have experiences and learn from then, changing the way they act in turn. If they didn't, nothing would ever advance.

i don't think that what is meant. i think it's more about acting out the image we have of ourselves. when our flesh reflects our egos it is ourselves. when it doesn't we assume it's something else. shame on us.

Sure bro but our the current state of our language isn't a shining example of linguistic clarity, and there isn't really a problem here because no-one gets confused when they say to someone that they're not themselves, I know exactly what they mean despite the apparent contradiction in what they've said. There is no problem, and no clarification needed.

So OP for your next trick are you going to pull a rabbit you've put in a hat out for us and tell us that metaphors are literally nonsense as well?

>> No.1137863

you are wrong, op.

the truth is precisely the opposite. we are never ourselves.

whatever we do, we only know it reflectively as having been done, and we exist reflexively as our bodies continually becoming.

I am my body, I am perpetually becoming my 'self'
