Why are books so important to you?

>> No.11371564

They're not.

Hey that’s what i was going to say

>> No.11371612

They let me take part of another person’s thoughts, feelings, ideas, and so on, something I struggle to do through socializing. Other mediums feel less intimate and/or are not as good at conveying more complex ideas. They can also be very fun and educative.

Economic collapse, nuclear annihilation, or super plague will arrive in our lifetimes and with it the fall of the internet and digital archives and the cloud. Preserving the knowledge of the ancients and rebuilding a peaceful self-sustaining community under a democratic republic would be my mission. If I don't survive to implement it myself, my will books serve another as a guide.

No not within "our" lifetimes.

well Books have more depth than a person inherently because they are the result of hundreds if not thousands of hours of a person's writings and they never get off track while they talk to me.

How can someone read so many books and still be socially inept and stupid? do they not take in anything they read?

>> No.11372007

I don't have any friends or a Netflix account so I need something to pass the time between shifts at work. As John Ridley wrote in, "The Drift," reading is the intelligent way to kill time.

Seeing bookstagrams and all this stuff where people like the book aesthetic and talk about reading books but never actually bringing up the content and what it made them think about specifically pisses me off so much. Now just liking books puts you in that assumed pleb category so I hide my power level most of the time.

tldr books are important to me in a very specific, autistic way reeeeeee

I need to compensate for and escape my friendlessness, inceldom and bleak future.

Thinking I’m engaging some esoteric experience or knowledge that is beyond the reach normies helps me cope, striving to become unlike “them” gives my life meaning.

>> No.11373320

Because I'm desperately searching for some kind of hidden meaning or solution to life that I know I'm not going to find.

It's one of the only portable entertainment mediums that you can pick up and put down when the situation calls for it. Movies, tv, video games, and even music are all entertainment mediums that you have to stay engaged in for a specific duration and requires you to put down time specifically for it with no disturbances, else you miss something and have to start over. With a book you just reread the last sentence or two and get back to it when you can, and it's still enjoyable to set aside time to do nothing but read like you would anything else.
