There's a lecture on youtube, terrible video quality but great information, by a guy who taught in Africa and got interested in sub-Saharan African languages (so not Arabic or French, we're talking about languages like in the Bantu family). There is almost no abstract conceptualization and none of the concepts that made other cultures successful. There's no precision in phrasing and there is no concept for precision. You can say there are, or are not, bananas in the tree, but you can't say there are a few or many, or that they are halfway up.
Of course they're getting these things now but they're all visibly European loanwords.
There are moral implications -- a "promise" actually means I will certainly try but who knows what will happen, I might forget. This explains pretty much everything. A clear emergemcy will be promptly responded to, but preventive maintenance on a clearly functioning machine will not be done for years.

I live in ghana inside a working class / ghetto hustler neighbourhood and i can corroborate most of the cultural traits, including the naive concept of love in young people especially, but i wouldnt put the blame on language alone.

But lets start with the assertion that africans are incapable of establishing a functional democracy cause they can only believe in one strong leader. Nigeria has a relatively well functioning democracy thanks to the (bloody) struggle of the igbo and calabar people. West africans generally like to talk a lot in order to settle a matter. Watch any nollywood movie and you will see. The issue is not lack of communication or words. The real issue here is that coloniali powers kept the region in an iron grip for centuries, employing the roman divide and conquer principle to their own benefit, cracking violently down on any uprising by uncritically killing civilians. Generation after generation grew up in these monolithic regimes.

Add to that a pre colonial tribal culture of chieftains and fights over territory. The transition to democracy happened abruptly and to join the tribal divide proved close to impossible. On top of that, europe and usa made damn sure they wouldnt loose their businesses in africa. And they used bribe money and assasinations to ensure that. Its all documented, and still going on. In turn we have an african culture of hunger for economic priviledge, corruption, poor (mild word) education system, extreme promiscuity etc. And of course monolithic power structures.

Nkrumah wrote a book called post colonialism. Everything he predicted happened. Not just in Africa.

First of all, no effort is being made to improve the educational system. Second the conditions most people live under, due to mechanisms and history already explained, dont allow for people to worry too much about abstract and/or critical thinking. Add rampant christianity to that, which really just works as a ponzie scheme making pastors rich. Its an elaborate clientela system too. The more sensible ghanians are muslims! Sharia expicitly forbids any kind of exploitation. No way you can bend the quran to say otherwise- but the bible... They justify all kinds of shit with that.

All these factors contribute to keep people dumb providers of cheap labor and money for the pastors. If you see a rich guy here, hes either a pastor, a fraudster or he schooled abroad.

As a reply to my post I can only conclude you didnt read it. If you read the stuff I wrote you will see that I employed both economic, sociological, psychological geopolitical and historical arguments for the state of the african people today. But the point can be summarized very neatly like this: If you keep a dog in a cage, never feeding it, only letting it out to beat it with a cane or worse, it will be feral the moment it escapes. Second point, very progressive attempts at a functional society were made by competent african leaders who knew what they did. They were invariably couped or assasinated, the only exception I know about being J J Rawlins.

Also if you look up Maslows hierachy of needs you might understand how lack of means will remove the peoples want to occupy themselves with abstract/critical thinking.

In the western model we have reached a way of securing peoples basic needs allowing them to focus on the top of their maslow hierachy. Most european countries do it better than USA does. But still, there is no comparison to african countries where foreign investors have been in control of (most) governments since independence.

Most of the european economy is funded by ressources bought for cheap bribes in colonies. Same goes for US and China. Even the Lebanese and the Indians are here plundering. These are facts.
