im already kinda busy and have some things lined up, im playin vidya now because its basically my only free time. Im already planning on doing some heavy study and annotation into helter skelter for some talks i have planned, and for me that takes awhile. the book is 400 some pages and im not sure if ill have the time with the aforementioned study and my job.

I just read the spark notes summary with the "deeper" themes. Jesus. It's horrible. There are parts where she is literally on Tumblr posting things. Read it, and then tell your mother what you really think about it in your own words, chapter by chapter. This might start off your rebellious phase, a healthy chapter in every teens development towards adulthood. I read the sparknotes because I’ve seen some people praise the book. The only decent part is the portrayal of black ghettos and gang violence. The rest of the story is a BLM fanfic.

It’s a shallow book (that panders to the obvious liberal crowd) and doesn’t provide any insight beyond what you can find on a liberal’s social media posts ranting about racism. It’s also YA, so it has typical relationship drama and is written at that level. Criticizing the book is difficult because you’ll just be met with claims of racism or white privilege.

It's not a great book, though. The best part is when the father compares Harry Potter to living in the ghetto. The ending is cheesy and hits you over the head with the message. If you want to troll your class, say that The Hate U Give is sensationalist garbage in the tradition of Uncle Tom's Cabin, and that Ralph Ellison, Zora Neale Hurston, and Toni Morrison are objectively better authors.
