Can a female protagonist work, or is males unconscious sexism and females unconscious jealousy too great to overcome?

It will work if you write her using this method: start with a man, then remove all reason and accountability.

>> No.11296866

Yes female protagonists can work, the issue is that a lot of authors either write men and then say they're women for easy credit, or they write realistic characters based on absolutely horrid women but end up praised because of the modern culture of feminist bias.

>> No.11296895

Hunger Games was a fresh franchise that worked fine with a female protagonist. Sexism might stop 1-5% of retards giving something with a female protagonist a try and the actions of the character will be judged more harshly but as long the writing is semi-decent, it won't be a big enough deal.

Dude it objectively was not, it was a Battle Royale knockoff from day 1

A R rated movie, almost ten years ago before HG, so the audience was too young to care. And it made 25m, so hardly a popular success.

>>11296931
So a franchise is "fresh" if it markets itself to an audience too young and dumb to see that it's a knockoff? Guess Hollywood better keep with the 80's rehash then.

>> No.11296963

>>11296938
>Guess Hollywood better keep with the 80's rehash then.
Their knock offs rely on people hearing about it from the nostalgia obsessed peers. BR was a niche for anyone but weebs.

Of course HG isn't "fresh" in a sense of bringing something truly new to the market but only very few stories are. It started without any brand recognition (say unlike the current Star Wars movie with female protagonist) and turned out pretty successful even before the movies.

You asked if a female MC could work, you got your answer. The fact the younger generations weren't aware of the fact a similar idea had already been explored only proves the point further.

Weak bullshit. Most media is not a direct adaptation of other media, it's specifically that the YA fiction genre and Hollywood in general have come to rely on that strategy.

Not only is the tripfag fugly but it is obnoxiously retarded as well, shitting up EVERY goddamn thread with its menopause-induced ramblings that are the archetype of trite, insipid bullshit.
That autist over in the Plato thread has contributed more content and insightful observations in the last 2 days than the tripfag has for however long it has been shitting up this board.
And filtering the faggot doesn't work because there are fags like you still reacting to it in every thread. I'm amazed how a single person can so palpably lower the quality of a whole board with their presence.

Not that anon but there's plenty of survival situation type stories with different core audiences. From what I've read, BR revolved around high school kids and geared towards the action genre. HG books are mainly psychological from the POV of a young protagonist. Both survival situations but carried out differently.
