Holy fuck, this pisses me off. I'm only a casual reader, but I can still reference books that weren't written by George Orwell. Why did he have to write 1984? Why?!?!?

1984's power shouldn't be lazily and erroneously comparing it to modern events, like so many who seem to not having actually read it tend to do. Rather, it's realizing how little it would take to plunge society into the type of everlasting hell that Orwell is trying to warn us about.
