What are your favorite stories?
Also how are his plays? I've never read any of his

The Beauties is a must read in my opinion, he really captures THAT FEEL. The Kiss also.

His realism prose style is second to earlier Tolstoy and a bit like Joyce in Dubliners. The stories are often very comfy and often devastating. Havent read his plays

I read an assortment of his short stories years ago. I remember liking Ward No. 6 and one about some guy working alone at a train station in the middle of nowhere.

I love Chekhov! Thanks for making this thread.

My favorite, and possibly my favorite story of all time, is “The Kiss.” I also love “The Bet.” I’ve learned so much about writing from reading Chekhov, he’s so fun and such an intelligent writer.
