Why do people say The Wise Man's Fear is a mess. It's gigantic book with many sub-plots, in my opinion its great. I don't want Rothfuss to rush anything. We need to thoroughly examine Kvothe's path to Mary Sue which was introduced long time ago. He's just that kind of character, its hardly bad plot/writing if first 100 pages of Name of the Wind mention he has uncommon talent for everything he sets his mind on. The style is pretty good too, he keeps his high quality standard all the way through. I liked everything so far, maybe Adem training part was boring, but still. Why does he randomly have so much sex, he's like 16 ffs. Fae part was good and made sense though.

Denna parts and her character are also increasing total value of this work, its sometimes heart breaking too. Fugg I didn't even realize what she was until it was explicitly said, I mistook it for something else.

she doesnt create copies of her personality per-se but rather she has hundreds of copies of herself inside her head that manifest when she splits up. they all share the same sentiments and dispositions though for the most part. in the second book they split up after some differences in to 3 distinct "primes" with each their own seperate personalites that share similarities.
shes great because shes always cheerful and happy. shes written to be some sort of girl next door personality. all the while actually being a PMC all on her own. and she loves to make pancakes for some reason.

>annoyingly honourable characters
I really like when this is done right, unfortunately the average modern bugman has no fucking clue what a "lawful good" character actually looks like and so can't write one. The protagonist of Three Hearts and Three Lions was a positive example. Another one I ran into recently was John C. Wright's Swan Knight series.

The first book (part 1, book 0 yes that's what the author called it) was interesting because for the most part it didn't follow any fantasy cliches. It was about a kid who's family died so he became a monk, he went on a religious journey with some other monks and became a slave where fantasy memes started to happen again. The second book (part 2, book 1) which is pic related was just cliche after cliche.
Also apparently book 0 is not needed to enjoy the story but the author refers to it as part 1 and if you didn't read it you would spend 50% of book 1 wondering who the hell these people are and why does the MC care about them.

Yes and a child author and still has love triangles.
There really is something to this.
I can think of one women author who off the top of my head doesn't have any and I would consider her books good so that's nice. Trudi Canavan has some forbidden love in place of it though, also a society of women from memory.

not trying to Peterson-up-the-place, but it really is as simple as hypergamy. they are designed/evolved to keep options and always strive for better. the love triangle is the perfect testament to this; obvious when reflected upon, but surface level enough that most won't notice, including the women penning their genetically encoded fantasy for our collective suffering. there are outliers, but in the end of the day, most mine for gold and will only settle for silver until they can trade their goods for gold.

Just finished pic related and, after the first two books, what a goddam letdown.
Weak as fuck protagonist that does nothing, except when she's fucking up the entire human race by being unable to make hard choices. Sophon goes from "delicate and wise tea lady" to "cull the human race through cannibalism" back to "sadder tea lady." I am baffled that the main character would associate with Sophon after the whole Australia thing. Also, the ships of humans that left the solar system and engaged in "dark battles," becoming "negacivilizations," seem perfectly normal now, even going out of their way to save the ship that had come to kill them. Thomas Wade should have been the real protagonist, nigga got shit done. Finally, it definitely should have been the main chick and her lover, who bought her a fricken star and a mother fricken universe, together at the end. Having her miss out on meeting him due to a fluke and having her face the end of the universe with random other guy made no sense.

Blogpost over.

I tried to keep to male authored love triangles and Shakespeare was a black female as we all know. Seriously though, I'm pulling this straight from my ass but I feel like most classic (European) love triangles are inspired by either of the ones I mentioned, and the Arthurian one probably the Homeric also.

Reason being that it's hardwired into women to cherish and protect life and they're thus less likely to find themselves in positions that asks of them to send out men and women to kill and die. It doesn't mean that individuals are less apt(Catherine the Great, Zenovia, Isabelle of Spain, Maria Theresia spring to mind), but as a trend men find themselves in those positions more often.

I should add that the decreasing frequency of wars and the fact that political power is now remote from military power means women do get elected more and more often as a trend. Ironically the most famous hardliners in 2 of the top countries of the world(UK and India) have been women.

Proposition: Sci-fi and fantasy are best done in European and Japanese comic books, in part because they rely on fantastic designs and imagery to draw the reader in. In books these genres deliver trashy literature in 90% of cases.
