Is gnosticism the final redpill?

>> No.11257040

Can someone explain to me what gnosticism even is?

The internet makes it just sound like early catholocism

I too would be interested in a not-so quick rundown

It's actually some weird shit the early Christians believed (some of them).

The Gospel of Judas (yes, Judas wrote a gospel supposedly.) It explains everything. The archons and the God being just one of many who imprisons humans in this universe so that they can't ascend beyond (gnosticism). The Serpent came to enlighten mankind, but the archon of our world told the world that the Serpent is a liar.

A movement that has heavy contradictions along its different strains basically
>Pure real God
>Sub God thinks he's hot shit and creates the physical realm to be its God and traps other spiritual beings in it
>It'sTheFuckingGenesisStoryButGodWasLying.PNG
>Humans have souls that must escape this world to the astral planes
>Jesus came to help us and refers to a different God than Old Testament
>Only way to escape is obtain esoteric knowledge where you'll then escape with death.
>No gnosis you'll just be reborn.

Gnosticism is just a label applied to any of the early heretical and non-canonical Christian texts, many of which contradict each other.

That's a pretty good description. There were a ton of "gnostic" like cults. They usually adopted whatever religion surrounded them and interpreted them in their own light. The Manicheans did this a ton.

It seems to me, if you come from a Christian worldview, that gnosticism could easily be dismissed as Satan using mankind's appetite for wisdom and esoteric knowledge to trick them into rebuking God and following Satan in disguise. What arguments exist that say this isn't the case?

It seems to me, if you come from a Gnostic Christian worldview, that Orthodox Christianity could easily be dismissed as the Demiurge using mankind's laziness and tendency towards social complacency to trick them into rebuking God and following the Demiurge in disguise. Gnosticism clearly rejects God's creation in Genesis as "good." And instead attributes that creation to the evil god. Pretty clear rejection of Christian revelation, which by the way, does not make a hard distinction between the Old and New Testament, look to the writings of Irenaeus for proof of that.

Historian of religion Horton Davies put it nicely:

>We may note that Gnostic eclecticisms have the following features in common. Their religion appeals to the proud rather than the humble in heart, for it claims to sum up the best in other religions and thus castigates adherents of the older faiths. Its appeal is largely to intellectuals and initiates and not to the great under-privileged multitudes of the world. Their philosophy is almost always pantheistic and shares the characteristic weaknesses of that outlook; for example, it despises the body which for the Christian is the temple of the Holy Spirit; it teachers an automatic immortality which makes an end of a moral interpretation of history; it depersonalizes God so taht He becomes an 'essence' or 'principle' and ceases to be the Person; consequently it despises history and the world as illusory, and shows an ostrich-like optimism towards sin, and an unwillingness to change the social conditions, which militate against the full development of personality. Salvation is through identification with God by means of meditation, not by the transformation of the will.

Yes
>Does God want to prevent Evil
Yes and No
>Then why is there Evil ?
To test us
>If God is all-knowing he would know what we would do if we were tested therefore no need to test us
Why the fuck did you assume that god was all-knowing from the questions you asked ? You asked if god knew about all the Evil, that doesn't make him all knowing, I'm just trying to think outside this graph mind you I'm not trying to push an agenda just thinking about scenarios where this graph is wrong. I just think that there could easily be an all powerful God that is *almost* all knowing, hence the existence of humanity, an impulsive, unpredictable creation, that he tests with the invention of Good and Evil.
