I have an interest in writing, but no interest whatsoever in reading. Can I still become a good writer?

No. Maybe you could crank out a fine email but don't dream big.

You don't have any interest in writing if you don't want to see how others do it.

You will become the greatest writer you've ever read.

No.

Seriously, while I think you can derive your inspiration from many MANY other things than books, you can't grasp waht makes a good book without reading a shitton of them.

Sorry dude... But you can still write for yourself, it will vastly help you improve, writing takes time, you may be able to write in 10 years, maybe more, don't give everything up and start reading and trying right now.

Okay, so I just read a few pages of the Man in the High Castle to get an idea of what a book is, and it reads like the same stilted, awkward dogshit that I write. Am I missing something?

Obviously.

You'll still need to read a bit, whether you have any interest in it or not. It's simply a more efficient way to see what works and what doesn't. I guess alternatively you could try writing a novel every week for five decades, which sounds more of a pain than reading a fucking book here and there.

>>11254307
Read more books and compare their level of stiltedness with each other.

It depends what you want to write. You can't write a novel without reading novels, but you can write something. If you practice anything enough and have talent you will create some kind of art, though it might be inscrutable and weird to others.

Just bite the bullet op. I am similar. I only got into reading recently because i realized i would not improve in any significant way otherwise. I prefer film and likely always will. I like expert editing
and swelling music and the whole lot, but books are old for a reason, they stand the test of time.
You even said your writing "reads like the same stilted awkward dogshit" as MitHC. If someone who doesn't read compares their writing to awkward dogshit, what do you think an avid reader would think of your work? We've been wasting our time when we should have been reading all our lives. Find books that pertain to your project and read them. Stop by /sffg/ if you are serious and want some recommendations.
