"The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire", in space, written by Dr Sheldon Cooper.

i still can't get past the epic space battle that happened entirely off-screen. characters standing about saying "huh, imagine that. epic space battle. i wonder how it turned out?"

It sucks. I feel that this book/series is important. It can even get compelling at points. But I couldn't make it through the first title so far. Just too dry.

Asimov is not a good writer. His short stories are more palatable.

Yes. It reminds me of the Beethoven quote (to a fellow composer): "I liked your opera. I think I might set it to music."
Asimov just needed an actual writer to take his ideas and write good books from them.

didnt find it boring. it is dated but nevertheless a real light and easy read. Maybe try it between serious books as a sort of palate cleanser

very little interesting conflict going on through the narrative

The characters are as flat as a penny.

Basically what most "ideas guy" novelists suffer from. Yet they are still successful because their ideas appeal to a niche nerd audience.
