I think many people happened to be reading PoS for a while there and it resulted in many arguments and questions. We'll probably still get a couple threads every once in a while.

In order to read their works, you should be familiar with Marx, Lacan, Freud, and French mid 20th century critical theory philosophers/sociologists (like Foucault and Althusser). It wouldn't hurt to read Proust's In Search of Lost Time if you plan on reading Proust and Signs. If you've already gotten through most of your journey with philosophy, you probably won't find yourself looking for many unknown names or concepts.

I actually learnt about him because of the Gochiusa general on /a/. Needless to say, I didn't start reading him until I encountered his works in Philosophy of Language class last semester.
Both of his two great works were much easier to read than Russell and Whitehead's Principia Mathematica. He thought of himself as the final boss of philosophy, but he only opened the door to a world which he himself could have never imagined.

Literally everybody who's into philosophy knows about Heidegger, even if they haven't read him, mostly because people like JBP use his ideas so much. Even Wittgenstein (who was notably against metaphysics, as well as continental philosophy) read Sein und Zeit before he died.
Nick Land is better known for Fanged Noumena than any of his academic philosophical works.
Deleuze and Guattari seem like much more likely candidates for memes of the month.

I recall being spoken to by that name in class, and hearing it other times in rooms opposite to me, but rarely to me. Younger, I'd always get into this habit of forcing everyone away from me and making room to commit suicide in bouts of emotional guilt for knowing the impossibility of life, and harboring this reckless dissociation toward the actuality of objects as they are, always longing for another conception of a universe with entirely different building blocks, and it's nuanced my life as such to have almost no immediate absorption to anything. You might say, "those are generic sentiments," and if they are, it's because of Michaelstadter. Writing an eminent suicide manifesto does not leave a very unique being in the long run. In fact, it's often the thesis of Sex and Character, by Weinninger that remains the most entrapped in my head. I knew everything about it before I'd ever heard of it (and was in direct correspondence to as Michaelsteadter himself). I'd vigilantly argue the points of morality =ing intelligence and the character of masculine genius in high school and often with mysterious and forceful obsession. It simply possessed me as all too true and relevant to everything for the longest time. I'm hardly a philosopher today, but it's a background that's haunted me for a long time.

Even if this is the stupidest post you've ever seen. Just consider: where would the incarnation of michelsteadter be right now if not /lit/. I honestly hate it.
