You only need to read the three greats, and nothing else.

As the other anons have already mentioned: Reread. Take notes, use flash cards. Mnemonic devices. Highlight the sections that are most important to you in your mind for future reference. Find some sort of real life situation or current event for each main idea you come across while reading that you can link the data to so it comes more naturally. Instead of crunching the entire book into your brain by sheer force of will these tips will facilitate memorization.

It took me until my 4th read of the Sun Also Rises to be able to pick up the novel on any random page and know what was going on. Many people would be better off rereading more books than going for completely new ones, you will learn a lot more on the second and third reads.

Keep a journal. Every time you finish a book write down a few thoughts about it.

Also that photo made me laugh OP. What a silly thing, a jellyfish brainlet meme, lmao.

Read physical books, read out loud, take notes, flashcards, read the same thing repeatedly?

Personally I don't bother trying to retain knowledge and just move onto a new book quickly because I feel you learn just as much that way but it's way more entertaining. It's rare that there's a book I will take seriously enough I think I really need to memorize it or delve into it to comprehend what the fuck it is talking about.

Write a review for yourself on goodreads, nothing comprehensive and not a book report or anything, just a record of what the experience of reading it is like, what you think the main thrust of the work is, and your overall impressions.
